Since 1884, Portman Road was always the stadium for Ipswich Town Football Club who currently compete in the Championship in England. It is a all seater arena that has a capacity of 30,031 and lies in the heart of Ipswich, simply a couple of hundred metres from the train station that’s on the mainline to London.
The stands at either end of this arena were rebuilt in recent years and there are actually a number of executive boxes as well as other suites designed to have corporate events in.
Until eventually the mid-80s, Portman Road was mostly a football venue whilst there were times when cricket has been played here all through the summertime and for the duration of World War I, the stadium was also utilised by the British Army as a training camp. Of course, nearly all fans only knew Portman Road as a football stadium.
In March 85, the American Evangelist, Billy Graham visited Portman Road during his UK tour and approximately 8,000 Christians came to listen to him. With money becoming a growing number of significant to teams, various opportunities were studied to make use of the stadium all through the summertime as there was no football.
During the summer time of 91, Status Quo end up being the very first of various top music megastars and groups to play at Portman Road. Bear in mind it was more than a decade prior to the next significant music act visited Ipswich as Elton John performed at the arena. Subsequently, momentum has increased with a lot of top music stars performing including Tina Turner, Red Hot Chilli Peppers, REM, Dire Straits, Neil Diamond, Rod Stewart and more recently, Pink.
Summer time concerts at Portman Road are going to continue because they help the football club and the local community.

When you wish to obtain merchandise linked to your favourite football team then much like any fan probably you’ll be driven by price. After all, exactly what is the point of spending greater than you have to in an effort to show your support to your team? However, there might be some dangers in constantly putting price at the top of your preference list, the main one being that you may wind up purchasing unofficial products say for example a Man Utd strip or maybe a Liverpool calendar.
When buying calendars that depict celebrities or football teams it is important that you opt for the official product because any unofficial items mightn’t have been endorsed by the club or individual. The makers of these calendars may not have permission to implement the photographs featured on the glossy pages and also the team or individual featured on the calendar might not be conscious that such products pertaining to them actually exist.
That is why it’s so imperative that you buy items such as the David Beckham calendar from a reputable source such as a web-based calendar retailer. If the items claim that they’re official and they seem to have all of the correct logos included on the item then you’re probably safe to assume that they’re the real item. If the internet retailer supplies a wide range of other calendars and clearly demonstrates their trading address then you can certainly rest assured that these are an authentic supplier of these calendars.
This may be a safer solution to buy your chosen calendars instead of buying at a market stall or unnamed store because then you can know that the products you’re purchasing are official merchandise.

Alabama didn’t so much win their game against Tennessee on Saturday as much as they escaped. Despite playing one of their worst games of the year they managed to keep their undefeated season alive as nose tackle Terrance Cody blocked a potential game winning field goal on the last play of the game to preserve a 12-10 victory for the Crimson Tide. Alabama held a tenuous 12-3 lead late in the game before a Tennessee touchdown and recovered onside kick had them facing the specter of the defeat for the first time this season. Instead, Alabama improved to 8-0 while Tennessee slipped to 3-4.
College football pointspread players who took Tennessee as +14 road underdogs were in good shape throughout the contest and eventually cashed their tickets. The Vols improved to 4-3 against the spread while the Crimson Tide dropped to 5-3 versus the number. The 22 combined points went well UNDER the posted total of 41′. Tennessee has gone UNDER in 4 of 7 while ‘bama evened their college football totals record at 4-4.
After the game, Cody recounted his blocked field goal attempt that saved the day:
“I didn’t really get off the ground. I just reached my arm up. That’s how I got it. I knocked the blocker back. He was on his back.”
First year Tennessee coach Lane Kiffin wasn’t taking a ‘moral victory’ from the game:
“It’s a difficult loss to deal with. You come into a hostile environment and play the No. 1 team in the country, as I said before by far the No. 1 team in the country and the best-coached team around. You come in here and outgain them by nearly 100 yards and miss three field goals. I don’t believe in moral victories, we should have won that game.”

There are two major shoe companies in the world today. Those two companies are Nike and Adidas. Of the two companies only one produces a football shoe that a large percentage of the players wear. The Adidas Predators football boots are the most popular choice amongst football players worldwide. Since 1994 Adidas has manufactured the Predator line of shoe and it has done very well ever since.
The Predator line of football boot currently has 11 different variations. Every shoe in the line varies slightly in their design, but each one employs the Predator technology that has made the shoe famous. If you were to take a visual survey of the players that wear an Adidas shoe on the field, you would find that the largest percentage of shoe worn today is from the Predator line.
One of the main reasons they choose the Predator is the shoe is a solid performer. This is because of the technology that has gone into making the shoe all these years. Different models use various methods but all Predators have the trademark rubber stripes along the top. It is said that these stripes provide more friction when the ball contacts the shoe. This will improve the players accuracy, an important factor in football.
Adidas also incorporates what they call “power spine” technology in the Predators line of shoes. They claim that this too provides more power to a players kick because it reduces the amount that a players foot will bend back during a kick. All of these features are important to football players because they will look for any edge they can gain over the competition.
Adidas has always done very well with their Predator line of shoe. Their marketing campaigns have sold the shoe well and to this point they have not faltered in making smart decision when choosing which sports star to promote their products.

The Detroit Lions nineteen game losing streak is over. On Sunday afternoon at Ford Field in Detroit the Lions held on for a 19-14 win over the Washington Redskins. The Lions hadn’t won a game since December 23, 2007 and had already tied the second longest losing streak in NFL history. It may not have been pretty, but the streak is now over and the Lions wont have to worry about comparisons to the 1976-77 Tampa Bay Buccaneers, who lost a record 26 games in their first two seasons as an NFL expansion team.
If you were going to bet on a NFL football game this past weekend, the Lions may not have been the most attractive position. Sports betting enthusiasts who took Detroit as a +6 home favorite were rewarded with the outright victory. It was the Lions first pointspread cover of the 2009 NFL season, while the Redskins have yet to get the money for their backers this year. The 33 points went UNDER the posted total of 39.
Lions owner William Clay Ford said in postgame comments that he hopes the end of the streak signals a new winning tradition for his team:
“We not only got the monkey off our back, we got King Kong off our back. I’m hoping that this gets us over that hump and gives us a winning attitude.”
Dominic Raiola has played in Detroit for his entire nine year career, and he too expressed his relief that the streak had come to an end:
“I’ve always watched, but I’ve never been in this situation before. No team has been in this situation before. No one has gone 0-16 and then had to try to win a game the next year.”

In a NFL preseason game characterized by rainy weather, sloppy field conditions and a quick exit for both teams starters, the Miami Dolphins outlasted their in-state rivals the Jacksonville Jaguars by a 12-9 score. Only one touchdown was scored in the game, which was a battle of field goal kickers until the third quarter. Miamis game winning score came on a 33 yard touchdown strike from Chad Henne to tight end Ernest Wilford.
Miami’s Ernest Wilford recently converted to tight end from wide receiver, and gave the football an emphatic spike after his game winning touchdown reception. He talked about the play in his postgame comments:
“There’s a sense of urgency for me. I want to play well this year. It’s a good start. That was a lot of frustration right there. I didn’t play that much last year, so I had to let it out.”
Dolphins QB Henne was pleased with his first effort of the NFL preseason:
“Overall I thought I played pretty well. I got some points on the board and had us moving.”
Jacksonville QB David Garrard gave a fairly standard assessment of his teams opening game performance:
“We have to get better at some of the protection issues. I have to make sure I get everybody lined up in the right spots.”
Newly acquired Jaguars wide receiver Tory Holt was happy with his only reception of the game:
“I had been anticipating this day for a long time. I enjoyed it and it was a lot of fun. I am looking forward to many more.”
Despite ending up on the wrong side of a losing score, Jaguars head coach Jack Del Rio was generally upbeat about his teams effort:

The ‘new look’ Washington Redskins offense under Sherm Lewis looked much like the old offense under Jim Zorn, and the Philadelphia Eagles had little trouble as they opened a 27-10 halftime lead en route to a 27-17 victory on Monday Night Football. DeSean Jackson scored a long touchdown both rushing and receiving, and Donovan McNabb threw for 156 yards and a touchdown with no interceptions in the victory. The Eagles improved to 4-2 on the season, while the Redskins dropped to 2-5.
The Eagles also rewarded NFL betting enthusiasts with the pointspread cover as -8′ road favorites. Philadelphia is now 4-2 against the number while the Redskins continued their struggles against the NFL pointspread dropping to 1-6.
Jackson’s only complaint after the game was that a sore ankle undermined the artistry of his post touchdown tap dance:
“I was out there having fun, man, honestly. My ankle was kind of hurting. I really didn’t feel it, but it did kind of affect my dance a little bit. I could put it to perfection a little bit better than that.”
Redskins’ defensive tackle Albert Haynesworth suggested that this team has to learn to play as a unit:
“You can say but so much. You’ve got to actually want to. So once we get to that point — where we want to do something — then we’ll do something. But if we just keep going our separate ways, then we’ll just keep getting slaughtered like we have.”
Jim Zorn was apparently more interested in playing ‘gotcha’ with the management that replaced him as the Redskins’ offensive play caller than in analyzing the game:
“Well, the result was the same. We got 17 points. It was difficult for me. It was difficult to stand and watch. The hard part is to keep your mouth shut.”

Despite losing to the New Orleans Saints in their NFL preseason opener 17-7, the Cincinnati Bengals had a lot to be happy about. Most significantly, they were elated over the return of QB Carson Palmer after he’d missed most of the last NFL season with an elbow injury. Palmer’s play–133 yards on 7 of 11 passing–gave them even more to be happy about despite being on the wrong end of the final score. Of course Cincinnati has had very low standards for success lately, and it was more of a ’silver lining in a dark cloud’ situation than anything else.
New Orleans had their share of offensive highlights, with QB Drew Brees hooking up with tight end Jeremy Shockey for three completions including Shockey’s first touchdown reception in a Saints uniform. It was a harbinger of things to come, as Shockey would later catch a touchdown pass in the Saints’ remarkable Superbowl victory over the heavily favored Indianapolis Colts. Many suggest that Bayou ‘root doctors’ have more to do with the win than the team’s actual play.
Saints fans were well aware that their QB would produce after hanging over 5,000 yards on the board last year, but Palmers return from injury brought a sigh of relief from Bengal backers. Palmer missed most of last season because of a partially torn ligament and tendon in his passing elbow. His passing highlight was a 55 yard play to Chad Ochocinco.
After Shockeys TD catch boosted the Saints to a 7-0 lead, the Bengals tied the game when Palmers backup J.T. O’Sullivan hit Chris Henry on a 14 yard touchdown pass. OSullivan also produced solid numbers, completing 9 of 11 passes for 100 yards.

The Atlanta Falcons didn’t so much win their Sunday Night NFL Football game against the Chicago Bears as much as the Bears lost it. A series of costly mistakes and turnovers in the red zone negated an otherwise solid road effort for the Bears, as Atlanta held on to win 21-14 at the Georgia Dome. Chicago held a decisive edge in most of the statistical categories, but was undone by untimely turnovers.
Chicago also disappointed fans who bet on NFL football by failing to cover the pointspread as +4 road underdogs. Both teams’ ATS records match their straight up records with the Falcons moving to 4-1 against the number while the Bears slumped to 3-2. The 35 combined points went UNDER the posted total of 46.
Winning Falcons’ QB Matt Ryan chose to credit his defense rather than point to Chicago mistakes as the determining factor in the outcome:
“Our defense, give them some credit. Our guys stepped up and made some plays when we needed them to.”
The Bears did a good job shutting down Falcons’ star running back Michael Turner holding the NFL’s second leading rusher to only 30 yards. He came through with the game on the line, however, rushing for the winning touchdown with just over three minutes remaining in the game. Ryan praised his running back’s effort:
“Our offensive line did a great job just giving me just enough time to get the ball off, and then Michael Turner did what he does. The offensive line provided a great push and just paved his way.”

Florida State won their first ACC college football game of the year on Thursday, though it certainly wasn’t easy. The Seminoles were down 24-6 midway through the third quarter before mounting a furious comeback to defeat North Carolina 30-27. FSU quarterback Christian Ponder threw for a career high 395 with three touchdowns and no interceptions to pace his team. The Seminoles improved their overall record to 3-4 while North Carolina dropped to 4-3.
College football betting enthusiasts who overlooked the Seminoles dismal record against the spread were rewarded by Florida State’s outright win as +2′ road underdogs. FSU covered for only the second time this season, upping their record against the college football pointspread to 2-5. The Tar Heels haven’t been a very good investment either, and the loss left their ATS tally at 2-4.
The win also should help settle some of the talk about the future of head coach Bobby Bowden, at least for the moment. There has been a good deal of speculation that the venerable coach should step away from the program. He expressed some relief in his postgame comments:
“The talk that we’ve had down there, there’s only one thing that solves it. Winning. Play close and fight your guts out? Who cares? You’ve got to win.”
Winning QB Ponder suggests that the comeback win demonstrates the character of this Seminoles team:
“This proves how good we can be, and I’m just proud of the way we fought back. Down what, 24-6? And we could have given up and we didn’t. That’s just the character of the guys on this team.”
Tar Heels’ coach Butch Davis observed that rankings are irrelevant once the game begins:
“It’s a little bit of a wake-up call for the defense. Reputations and rankings and stats and all that stuff is somewhat insignificant. You’ve got to play.”
